How to Use
Enter your team name
Add your team name for identification in the results.
Enter finish places
For each of your runners (minimum 5, up to 7), enter their overall place in the race.
Add times (optional)
Enter finish times in MM:SS format to calculate pack time and average pace.
How It Works
Team Score = Place₁ + Place₂ + Place₃ + Place₄ + Place₅
Example: Finishes of 3, 7, 12, 15, 20
3 + 7 + 12 + 15 + 20 = 57 points
Pack Time: Time between 1st and 5th scorer
The lowest possible team score is 15 (finishing 1-2-3-4-5). Tie-breakers are determined by the 6th runner's place.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is cross country team scoring calculated?
In cross country, team scores are calculated by adding the places of a team's top 5 finishers. The team with the lowest score wins. For example, if your runners finish 2nd, 5th, 8th, 12th, and 15th, your team score is 42.
What is pack running and why does it matter?
Pack running is when teammates run closely together during a race. Tight packs help runners push each other to better performances and can displace opposing runners. A pack time under 60 seconds (1st to 5th runner spread) is considered tight.
What is displacement in cross country?
Displacement occurs when your 6th and 7th runners finish ahead of opponents' scoring runners, pushing those runners back in the standings. This increases opponents' scores without affecting your own score.
How many runners compete for each team?
Teams typically enter 7 runners. The top 5 finishers score for the team, while the 6th and 7th runners can provide displacement. Only the top 5 matter for scoring purposes.
What is a good pack time?
Elite college teams often have pack times (1-5 spread) under 30 seconds. High school state-level teams aim for 30-60 seconds. Recreational teams might have 90+ second spreads. Tighter packs indicate better depth.
